Not one stone was left standing.
Spectacular and challenging—that sums up the Wilh. Werhahn KG Social Day, which took place for the sixth time at the Raphaelshaus in Dormagen.
On August 27, 2025, 19 colleagues and members of the executive board set out to tackle the tasks of the sixth Social Day at the Raphaelshaus. And these tasks were truly demanding: a solid masonry stable had to be demolished and razed to the ground. Axes, crowbars, pneumatic hammers, sledgehammers, and excavators—heavy-duty equipment was brought into play. Roofing felt flew, walls came down, and rubble was hauled away, wheelbarrow load by wheelbarrow load. The team didn’t hold back; they gave it their all, and by the end of the day, literally not a stone was left standing.
A complete makeover, please
Another group focused on the large horse stable next door. The task here was a “complete makeover.” The entire exterior wall had to be cleaned and primed before it could be painted. The rolling scaffolding was moved forward meter by meter until the stable finally gleamed in pristine white.
To wrap things up, there was a heartwarming moment: colleagues led the Raphaelshaus’s horses, ponies, and goats into their stables for the night, taking the time to give them plenty of affection. After all, how often do you get an opportunity like that?
Sweaty, dusty, and splattered with paint—but united by the satisfying feeling of having accomplished a great deal and done valuable work for the Raphaelshaus—the team brought the Social Day to a close. Yet, the shared experience will resonate long after the day itself has ended.
As in previous years, Werhahn supported the facility not only with manpower but also with a financial donation. At this child and youth welfare center, around 200 educational professionals care for more than 250 children and young people across 23 groups. They all come from extremely difficult family backgrounds and receive outpatient, day-care, or inpatient care.
Commitment.
